FECYT supports international symposium on sustainable materials in Berlin

Last 13th April took place in Berlin the International Symposium Material Cycles, organised by Greenlab Laboratory for Sustainable Design Strategies based in Berlin, with the support of FECYT and the Society of Spanish Researchers in Germany (CERFA). The symposium highlighted innovative concepts, strategies and practices regarding sustainability from the perspective of designers, technologists and practitioners working in the area of ecological design systems and circular economy. The event took place at the Weissensee University of Arts in Berlin, where Greenlab Laboratory is located, and brought together more than two hundred visitors from across Germany

For the occasion, various researchers, designers and visionaries from Barcelona travelled to Berlin sponsored by FECYT. Among them, Prof. Dr. Alberto T. Estevez, Director of ESARQ at the Internacional University of Catalonia (UIC), who presented his work on Genetic Architectures and Biological Urban Lighting and Dr. Flavia Barragan, Chemist & Bioscientist, topLab Berlin, who explained “How to Rethink the Way We Make Things”. Afterwards, Anastasia Pistofidou, Founder FabTextiles and Textile Academy in Barcelona, presented how to design material ecosystems. Finally, Jonathan Minchin, Project Manager IAAC/Valldaura Labs in Barcelona and London, introduced to the audients ecological interactions and modes of industry.

The symposium was conceived to connect higher education, practice-led design researchers and industry partners to support, inspire and create innovative approaches to the development of sustainable and ethical products, services and systems.
